Bonjour Bakery in Edmonton | Online Menu + Free Delivery | Customer Reviews

Bienvenue to Bonjour Bakery, Edmonton’s beloved artisan sanctuary where centuries-old European bread-making meets local passion. Nestled in the heart of the city, Bonjour Bakery brings warmth and craftsmanship to every loaf, cake, and treat, delivered fresh via SweetnFresh to your door.

Bonjour Bakery is known as one of the best bakeries in Edmonton. Locals love its authentic, memory-filled baked goods made with care. From golden baguettes in Edmonton mornings to elegant celebration cakes, it blends European tradition with Alberta soul.

Bonjour Bakery breads in Edmonton

Roots, Grains & Community of Bonjour Bakery

Step inside Bonjour Bakery and you’re greeted by the scent of warm bread and the sight of a stone-lined German oven. Their story starts with a wild yeast culture carefully nurtured for decades. It’s alive, and it gives their sourdough its deep aroma and unique flavor.

One of their most special creations is the purple wheat bread. Its rich color comes from anthocyanins, natural antioxidants also found in beets and Saskatoon berries. The wheat’s journey is inspiring. It started with a few grains planted eight years ago in a flowerpot. Then it was grown in a local garden, and later cultivated on organic land near Morinville, Alberta. Today, it’s milled fresh in-store and baked into bread that’s earthy, flavorful, and truly local.

The bakery also makes Pain Paysanne, a simple bread with only three ingredients: organic flour, salt, and water. It’s fermented for days and baked until the crust is crisp and the inside tender. The grains are grown organically in Morinville, giving every slice a pure Alberta connection.

Everything here is 100% Canadian, 100% Albertan, 100% Edmontonian.

From Sunrise to Afternoon: A Bakery’s Daily Rhythm

Morning Light, Fresh Crust: Simple Joy

Before sunrise, bakers prepare the dough and mill fresh wheat on their Östtirooler stone mill. Heritage Alberta grains are turned into flour just minutes before mixing. The aroma fills the bakery before the first customers arrive.

Baguettes emerge from the oven golden and crisp. They’re chewy inside, with a flavor that comes from long fermentation. People drop in from Oliver or Boyle Street for baguettes in Edmonton or to grab a loaf for breakfast.

Mid-Morning: Sourdough at Its Best

By mid-morning, the shelves hold beautiful white pain au levain. This sourdough is made from a 45-year-old levain culture studied by University of Alberta researchers. It’s tangy, textured, and perfect for toast, sandwiches, or a cheese board. Many say it’s the best sourdough bread in Edmonton.

Afternoon: Rustic & Grain-Rich

As the day goes on, more rustic loaves arrive: Country Rye, Seeded Rye, and a dense 100% rye bread for true rye lovers. The Country Rye blends rye and wheat for balance. The Seeded Rye has seven grains for extra flavor and nutrition. And the 100% rye loaf is as hearty as it gets. Fans say it’s the best among rye breads in Edmonton.

Other breads such as Olive/Sundried Tomato, Focaccia, Harvest Grains, and Seliansky add variety and flavor. Each bread is baked only on certain days, so check before ordering. And of course, there are Bonjour Bakery cakes for every occasion, all made with the same attention to detail.

Remember to place your order by 3 pm the day before to ensure it’s ready.

The Flavors of Bonjour Bakery

Step inside and let your senses guide you. Every loaf, baguette, and cake at Bonjour Bakery tells a story of carefully nurtured grains, long-fermented dough, and the loving hands that craft each pastry. From the first crisp bite to the soft, flavorful crumb, every flavor is a celebration of tradition, quality, and Edmonton’s local spirit.

Heritage Sourdoughs — Pain au Levain & Pain Paysanne

Imagine slicing into a loaf whose crust cracks like history itself. The white pain au levain is fermented slowly, nurtured by a 45-year-old culture studied by U of A scientists. It brings tang, texture, and a story into your breakfast ritual. The Pain Paysanne, made with three ingredients and long fermentation, offers a straightforward, unforgettable taste of European tradition.

Purple Wheat Bread — Alberta’s Living Grain

This loaf is truly something else. Grown from grains with origins in Ethiopian highlands, cultivated in Edmonton gardens, raised near Morinville, milled in the bakery, and baked fresh, each slice is a journey. It’s a loaf of heritage, colour, and antioxidant-rich flavor, hugging you with regional pride.

Rye & Grain Loaves — Country, Seeded, and 100% Rye

From the balanced Country Rye to the multi-seeded Seeded Rye, to the iron-dense 100% rye: these breads are hearty, soulful, and nourish both body and tradition. Locals treasure the densest ones, as one fan joked, “Don’t drop it on your foot, you might need two toes!”

Baguettes & Focaccia — Everyday Elegance

Crusty outside, soft inside, aromatic, ferment-rich baguettes, perfect for weekend cheeses with friends or quick sandwiches. The focaccia with its olive and sundried tomato variant is a fragrant flavor bomb, casual yet elevated.

Special Bakes — Olives/Sundried, Harvest Grains, Seliansky, Cakes

Walk in and the display dazzles: olive and sundried tomato loaves, harvest-grain varieties, Seliansky, plus a rotating selection of Bonjour Bakery cakes, each one perfect for celebrations, shared smiles, or quiet, no-day-off indulgence.

Bonjour Bakery baguettes in Edmonton

A Local Flavor: Culture & Connection

Edmontonians know that food is community. Whether you’re picking up a loaf before a stroll along the River Valley, grabbing a baguette to enjoy near the Art Gallery of Alberta, or ordering a cake for a little West Edmonton celebration, you’re sharing more than carbs. You’re holding tradition, local terroir, and a baker’s heart. Bonjour Bakery is woven into the city’s daily life, its ovens warmed by European roots, but its soul purely Edmontonian.

Why Locals Love Bonjour Bakery

“It’s the baguettes in Edmonton I dream about,” says Suzie, a fan from Garneau, speaking of the sourdough’s tangy soul.

“The purple wheat bread looks like magic and tastes like the prairies,” raves Mark, who lives near Old Strathcona.

“Finally, a rye that respects tradition,” nods Amir from Whyte Avenue, calling the 100% rye loaf “seriously impressive, handle with care!”

These are real voices from the community, people who’ve discovered something deeply authentic, uniquely local, and soul-warming in every bite.

Jenni Brown ★★★★
Amazing croissants, sourdough bread, and cheese!! I want to try everything, what we have had so far was all amazing. Got some great cheeses recommended to us, and had a proper croissant that was delicious (not just a crescent shaped bun like a lot of places try to pass off as a croissant!). Yes I ate it in the car, couldn't wait to get home! And they have small loaves of sourdough which is perfect, we aren't big bread eaters (despite the love for croissants) so the smaller loaf was great for us. Aaaand now I need to go back asap.

First time checking out Bonjour Baking and Whyte Ave. They sell all types of baguettes , sourdough and many more breads. They have a small selection of pastries. A bit disappointed that they didn’t have croissants. They also sell cheese, drinks, jams etc. A great place to buy different breads.🥖🍞

3 giant showcases. 1. A variety of fresh baked sourdough loaves. 2. A variety of fresh baked sourdough treats (I had the cinnamon bun...it was exquisite) 3. A full fridge of cheese mongery goodness. The cappuccino was also perfecto. A bit slow...but they were slammed...and well worth the wait in line. More seating might have been nice...but greatful there was any at all and we could chill while we waited for the warp1 next door to open 😊

Great to have a bakery in the neighborhood again! We were there for opening, and the croissants weren't ready, but we're glad we waited. Delicious. A bit big for a croissant, but good flavour. The pain au chocolate was great. Haven't had the breads yet, but they smell, sound, and look great.

Cathy Clements ★★★★
Raisin fennel sour dough sliced myself a little thicker. Toasted with butter and a little sprinkle of cinnamon makes a sweet treat without any sugar. Yum!
