The inside was full of Hong Kong style atmosphere. However, we had to request the bread and pastries, and the staff assisted us. It was different from Hong Kong, where it is usually self-serve. We ended up buying pineapple barbecue pork buns, cocktail buns and chicken pies. The prices were not particularly affordable, but the buns were large, and the fillings were very generous.

Attendant was very kind, the store was spartan and clean. But the thing that made me come back to give a review was the Napoleon. Best Napoleon I've had in Edmonton. It's always the puff pastry that disappoints in Napoleons cuz it's obvious they sit around and absorb the moisture (looking at you, Italian Centre) or were previously frozen (big chain grocery stores). Not here. We visited the bakery in the afternoon and I didn't eat this little joy until the evening, and the puff pastry was still crisp, so it was def fresh that day. It was so nice not to be disappointed!! I want to drive back and get more PDQ. Kids also loved their cocktail buns.

I visited Hong Kong Bakery as a part of CTC's Sweet Side of Chinatown tour. We sampled both their egg tart and coconut bun. The coconut bun was absolutely amazing, and I was drooling over their other desserts in the display cases. I will definitely be returning to try their red bean paste filled sesame seed balls. As a note, this place is cash only, but they did have an ATM.
